HTS

Hygiene and Toileting System

Features of the HTS

Please use the slides below to learn more about the HTS rolling shower commode chair.

Ideal for any child, any toilet, anywhere

  • On. Over. Off. No matter what the toileting situation, the type of toilet or the special need, the HTS can meet it with its unmatched versatility. It is usable:

ON the toilet. Placing the HTS on any model of toilet, round-front or elongated, enables the client to use the same toilet as the rest of the family. Mounting bars make for easy, secure attachment of the chair to the toilet base. Removal is just as easy, no tools required.

  • OVER the toilet Use the mobile economy base to wheel the HTS over toilets of nearly any size and style, enabling the client to use the same toilet as the rest of the family. Or use the lower stationary base (on toilets up to 15'' tall) so clients can put their feet on the floor. The mobile version also doubles as a shower chair.

  • OFF the toilet The mobile base and commode pan enable use of the HTS anywhere – not just in the bathroom.

  • As a shower chair By doubling as a mobile shower chair the HTS eliminates the need to purchase separate equipment for each activity. The optional tilt-in-space model tilts up to 25˚ back; the backrest tilts up to 18˚ back; and the headrest is adjustable to provide the ideal showering position for clients of every size, shape and ability.

Supportive and comfortable

  • According to research, support and comfort are essential for good toileting for children with special needs. That is why we have paid close attention to designing components that give children a sense of safety, security and support.

The maximum support and comfort are provided by the tilt-in-space base option. Its gas-assisted cylinder tilts up to 5˚ forward for easier transfer, as well as 25˚ back for showering and hair washing.

  • Additional support is provided by the adjustable backrest (6˚ forward for proper toileting position, 6˚ back and 18˚ back to assist with showering and hair washing).

  • Natural contours have been molded into the seat and back for basic comfort.

  • The seat and back are even more comfortable with the addition of cushioned molded foam pads.

  • All straps and accessories that touch the skin have been made with soft, easily laundered materials.

Reduces clean up

  • Every opportunity to save clean up and make the caregiver’s task easier was pursued in the design of the HTS.

For instance, the unique design of the seat pad opening (open to the rear) facilitates easy access for cleaning and hygiene after toileting.

  • This is even more effective when the seat and back are on a tilt-in-space base and it is tilted forward to make it easier for the caregiver to clean up a seated, relaxed client.

  • Made of soft flexible foam, the dynamic deflector spring feature allows the deflector cup to hold comfortably against the user, ensuring optimum protection. Users are unable to remove the deflector during toileting because it is anchored to the abduction block.

  • The splash guard deflector represents a totally new approach to maximum protection. It slips between the legs down into the pan and is held in place with the seatbelt.

  • The soft plastic of the splash guard is comfortable for the client and provides an extra measure of security for the caregiver.

Grows with the child (or multiple children)

  • Which chair is larger? Surprise: the two chairs in the photo are exactly the same size. One is adjusted to its smallest setting to accommodate a 5-year-old, the other at its largest setting fits an 11-year-old. The HTS fits a wide range of sizes, body types and special needs, allowing room for growth over time or use by multiple children.

  • Adjust the height. One frame accommodates both small and medium seats to allow for children’s growth. Height adjusts from 15'' – 21½''. Separate frame for large seat.

  • Adjust the seat depth. The seat depth on the HTS adjusts in 1'' increments to fit the child. Overall depth ranges from 8'' on the small HTS to 17½'' on the large model.

  • Adjust the backrest. The backrest can be adjusted 6˚ forward (for proper toileting position), 6˚ back and 18˚ back (to assist with showering and hair washing).

Five choices of base or mounting bar

  • Mobile base (tilt-in-space with footboard)

  • Mobile base (non-tilt with footboard)

  • Stationary base (non-tilt with footboard)

Note: Check clearance if using over a toilet.

  • Tub base (non-tilt, for medium and small HTS seats)

  • Two choices of mounting bar:

Mounting bar for elongated toilet (compatible with small and medium HTS): Elongated toilets will measure more than 17" from the centerline of the seat bolts to the front edge of the porcelain bowl.

Mounting bar for round front toilet (compatible with small, medium and large HTS*): Round-front toilets will measure 17" or less from the centerline of the seat bolts to the front edge of the porcelain bowl.

Use the mounting bar to attach the HTS seat to the toilet. The easy on-and-off feature allows caregivers to quickly position or remove the seat.

*Large HTS will always use round-front mounting bar for both elongated and round-front toilets.

Solves real problems

  • On the road. The portability kit gives clients and their families greater freedom to travel. Approximate carry bag dimensions: 19½" X 21¼" X 10"

Watch as it is set up over a public toilet.

  • The portability base includes a lightweight folding frame and carry bag (for small and medium sizes) make toileting possible while traveling. (Seat and back are purchased separately.)

  • Designed to set up completely above toilets, the portability kit eliminates contact with public toilets for better hygiene.

  • In the tub. The small and medium HTS seats attach to the tub stand for comfortable in-tub bathing and hair washing.

  • The reduced footprint of the tub stand accommodates narrow and wide tub bottoms alike.

Easier lifts and transfers

  • Lifts and transfers present a major challenge to successful toileting. The HTS makes them easier with a variety of features. Sit-to-stand transfers in and out of the chair provide good practice and strengthening for clients.

  • The footboard’s flip-up capacity – and the gas-spring forward-tilting seat (up to 5˚ forward) – support an easy transition from sit-to-stand.

  • The durable footboard also enables step-pivot transfers from the front. The weight capacity of the footboard is 150 lbs for all sizes of the HTS.

  • Lateral transfers are simpler as well thanks to the removable armrests.

No tools required

  • Like all our products, the HTS is exceptionally easy to assemble, adjust and disassemble. All adjustments levers and buttons are blue. So look for blue whenever you are trying to adjust the chair.

  • All attachments and adjustments are easily made by hand with no need for tools.

Hygienic and easy to clean

  • The HTS facilitates cleanliness – and health – for the clients who use it.

  • The material for the seat and back pads (molded foam) is inherently antimicrobial, promoting hygiene.

No special cleansers required: every part of the HTS is washable with a simple 10% bleach solution.

  • Waterproof construction and easy disassembly make every element of the HTS easy to wash and disinfect.

Exceptional value

  • The HTS is one of the most affordable toileting systems available today – which makes it an extraordinary value. On top of that, you can configure the HTS in a myriad of ways to fit your clients and your budget.

Options range from the basic model, with seat, back, base and armrests…

  • …to the fully accessorized version, with seat and back pads, headrest, butterfly harness, anterior support/tray, laterals, hip guides, commode pan, deflector, abductor, ankle straps, calf rest and footboard.

Lasts for many years

  • Like all our products, the HTS is designed for many years of service, far beyond the average toileting system. This durability comes from the sturdy stainless steel hardware that makes up the frame…

  • …which is welded and powder-coated for added strength.

  • Durability is built into the design of every component – from the casters at the bottom…

  • …to the adjustable headrest at the top.
