About Rifton

A physical therapist talks to a little boy and a little girl standing in a Rifton Stander.

Our History

Rifton began in 1977 as an offshoot of Community Playthings, a leading manufacturer of furniture and equipment for early childhood settings. When our designers paid a neighborly visit to a Connecticut home for children with disabilities, a therapist asked if they could custom-build a chair for one of their residents.

In the next months similar requests trickled in, and before long designers and workers at Community Playthings were dreaming about an entirely different and new line of equipment. And so Rifton Equipment began.

Those same early years saw a growing sensitivity in society to people with special needs. Americans increasingly recognized every person’s right to be treated with dignity and respect. At Rifton, we believe people with disabilities deserve our best.

Quality

Rifton represents the best of American values. All of our equipment is proudly made in the USA at our state-of-the-art facilities in New York’s Hudson Valley and southwestern Pennsylvania. By partnering with local suppliers, we help support the region’s economy and renowned vibrancy.
Our JIT (just-in-time) and lean manufacturing facilities are clean, organized and efficient with little waste or overhead. By keeping all phases of production – design, build and service – in-house, we ensure clients receive quality equipment that meets their specific needs at a reasonable cost.

Design

Our innovative and functional designs are the direct result of therapist feedback. Each component is thoughtfully designed and engineered to meet the needs of both therapists and clients. And we are constantly upgrading our products to bring you and your clients the opportunity for better results.
Each new piece of equipment goes through rigorous testing before it’s launched. We want our equipment to provide years of service, so our designers simulate real-world use in our test labs. You can feel confident that your Rifton product will survive whatever use (or abuse) you may give it.

Assembly

At Rifton, every detail is given complete attention, and every piece of equipment is custom-configured to meet the client’s specific needs. We adhere to strict quality control. Before any order leaves our factories, it is personally inspected and signed off to ensure quality and safety.
We are people building for people – every component of a Rifton product is welded, assembled, stitched, or adhered by hand. Our promise of quality results in durable equipment that lasts. More product for the money is a signature of genuine Rifton equipment.

Service

Replacement parts
Our replacement parts service is available to keep your equipment up and running. Give us a call. It is helpful to have the serial number from the product when you call. For older items we are able to supply common replacement parts if the design has not changed significantly.
