Dubuque School Becomes MOVE Certified

May 22, 2012 by Elena Noble, MPT

A woman points to a bird in a cage while a young girl in a stander looks onCongratulations to the Dubuque Community School District in Iowa in becoming MOVE certified. MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) is a curriculum designed to teach children with disabilities meaningful life skills within the school environment. Each child works towards independence in these skills and is given many opportunities to practice them throughout the day. The MOVE curriculum works towards gradually reducing supports and providing plenty of practice opportunities.

MOVE certification takes time and dedication, but it is worth it. You’ll appreciate this momentous occasion captured in this video of the students and teachers at Eisenhower Elementary School. And you’ll love the performance by 9-year-old Dawson Mussman. What a great spokesman for MOVE!

Find out how your school can become MOVE certified or how you can become a MOVE Basic Provider or MOVE Site Trainer.
