Pacer Casters

Meet the new kid on the block. Our Pacer Gait Trainers have been coming out with these re-designed casters since June 2004. You won't find these casters anywhere else - they are Rifton-designed and manufactured, and rigorously tested.

Along with increased durability, the re-designed caster gives you the following benefits:

  • Improved brake design - less prone to clogging with dirt/silt.
  • Brake is stainless steel.
  • Drag and brake mechanisms are now separate functions.
  • The drag is now made of the same material they use in car brakes - a heavy duty friction disc, providing a wide range of drag.
  • Wheel rolls smoothly on a sealed ball bearing.
  • Caster shell made of a tough, fiber-reinforced plastic.

And the new casters are retrofittable to old Pacers. You can order a set of 4 casters to replace older wheels. See exception for some models of K501 Small Pacers

SWIVEL LOCK

Function: Each caster can be locked independently to prevent it from swiveling. To engage the swivel lock, line up lever with one of the two notches and depress lever into notch.

Uses: All four casters can be locked to ensure that users learning to walk will travel in a straight line. Or the two rear casters can be locked to eliminate slipping sideways while walking.

DIRECTIONAL LOCK

Function: Each caster can be set so that its wheel turns only in one direction. To activate this feature, push lever to the upper position. Wheel should make a light clicking noise while moving forward and lock when attempting to roll backward.

Usage: This feature is helpful for users who involuntarily roll backward while trying to walk.

WHEEL DRAG

Function: The drag function applies resistance to the caster, making it easier or harder to roll. Choose the desired level of resistance by simply rotating dial from the rabbit (no drag) to the turtle (max drag).

Usage: The drag feature is helpful for stronger users who may move too fast or too suddenly.
