Rifton began in 1977 as an offshoot of Community Playthings, a leading manufacturer of furniture and equipment for early childhood settings. When our designers paid a neighborly visit to a Connecticut home for children with disabilities, a therapist asked if they could custom-build a chair for one of their residents.
In the next months similar requests trickled in, and before long designers and workers at Community Playthings were dreaming about an entirely different and new line of equipment. And so Rifton Equipment began.
Those same early years saw a growing sensitivity in society to people with special needs. Americans increasingly recognized every person’s right to be treated with dignity and respect. At Rifton, we believe people with disabilities deserve our best.
PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA
Rifton represents the best of American values. All of our equipment is proudly made in the USA. Our manufacturing facilities are clean, organized and efficient with little waste or overhead. By keeping all phases of production—design, build and service—in-house, we ensure clients receive the highest quality equipment that meets their specific needs at a reasonable cost.
DESIGN
Therapist feedback drives our innovative and functional designs. Each new product goes through rigorous testing before it’s launched. We want our equipment to provide years of service, so our designers simulate real-world use in our test labs. And we are constantly upgrading our products to bring you and your clients the opportunity for better outcomes.
QUALITY
We are people building for people. Every component of a Rifton product is welded, assembled, stitched, or adhered by hand. In this way, every detail can be given complete attention and even the slightest flaw corrected immediately. Every product goes through strict quality control. Before being packed it is personally inspected and signed off to ensure quality and safety.
SERVICE
Rifton is synonymous with service. Our customer service representatives are located directly within our factories. More often than not they have previously worked on the factory floor, assembling products by hand, before moving on to customer service, so they are knowledgeable about all the ins and outs of our equipment. We hope to provide support that matches the excellence of our products, and we want you to enjoy working with us.

A Note About the Photographs
The photography displayed in our catalog and on our website shows our equipment in use in real-life situations. To accomplish this, we work together with mostly local programs and facilities, to whom we extend our thanks:
