Because today is World Cerebral Palsy (CP) Day I want to call your attention to an initiative led by a group of charities aimed at changing the world for people living with CP and their families. With about 17 million people across the world living with CP and 350 million people closely connected to them, the potential impact is great. World Cerebral Palsy Day asks for submissions of ideas in the form of a 1-minute video or equivalent text proposal. Ideas must be submitted before October 31st when a review of all ideas by an international panel will begin. By January, three ideas are shortlisted and inventors, researchers and designers are invited to create and submit prototypes in a competition for a prize pool of $30,000. Winners of this competition are announced in June. In July, the process begins anew.
Additionally, during the month of October, all submitted ideas are opened to a vote in which anyone may participate. A People’s Choice Prize of $500 is awarded to the most popular submission.
